Plural.ca Privacy Statement

THIS AGREEMENT WAS LAST UPDATED ON MARCH 23rd, 2009.

Plural.ca is firmly committed to privacy. The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for this website.

The protection of your privacy being very important, we have adopted the following practices to safeguard the confidentiality of your personal information. In the case that any material in this Privacy Statement changes, we will either notify all registered members via email OR notify you of the changes on the website when you first log in.

What information do you gather automatically from visitors?

We may use your IP address to help us maintain our site and identify problems with our server. Your IP address does not disclose any personally revealing information about you.

We do use cookies to track each member’s login session and keep them separate and private from other members. Cookies are small pieces of information that a web site places on your computer's hard drive so we know it's you when you are logged into the site. This helps us to create a personalized experience for you when you visit our site. The use of cookies is a very common practice on the Internet. If you have disabled all cookies then you will not be able to properly log into the website.

What information will you ask me for?

When you register on the Plural.ca website you will be asked for some general identifying information which will enable us to provide you with this individualized service. We gather contact information (ie. your email address), and demographic information (ie. your city of residence, postal code, and age). We may share some of this information for our own research purposes with our professional advisors or consultants and third party partners, however the information shared will be limited to non-personally identifying demographic information shared under cover of a confidentiality agreement. If you choose to use any of the pay services (ie. to send another member a personal email message), our third party payment service will collect financial information (like your credit card number and expiry date). This credit card information will solely be used within the Plural.ca website for the purpose of providing you with a convenient payment service, and will remain confidential, secure, and private at all times.

During the registration process, you will be asked to create an alias, heading, and personal description for your profile, as well as to select which of the three main interests apply to you, for search accuracy purposes. The only personally identifiable information you will be asked for will be your first and last name, and your email address.  NOTE: All personally identifiable information will be kept private at all times. The only exception would be provided photographs, videos, or audio clips of yourself.

How will this information be used and who has access to it?

If you choose to have them sent to you, we may use your contact information to send you valuable updates and timely notices of promotions and mailbox status reports. Our site may at any time provide you with the opportunity to opt-in to receiving different types of communications from us. You may modify this choice at any time by selecting “My Profile” from the main menu. We reserve the right to use your contact information at any time to advise you of any updates that may materially affect your rights or status on our site.

Your non-personally identifying demographic information is used to personalize your experience, allow other members to find you through a search, to compose your personal profile - which is associated with a pseudonymous identity you have created - and to deliver targeted advertising and promotional offers to you from external companies that are of the highest relevance to your demographic profile. Your contact information is never available to other members or organizations, unless you explicitly send it to them.

In the event that you decide to use any of Plural.ca’s pay features, you will be asked for your financial information (ie. credit card number) which cannot be read by others when you initiate your order through the encrypted and secured system provided by our 3rd party payment service. You will know you are in secure mode when the tiny padlock icon - located at the bottom of your browser - appears "locked".

The personally identifiable information we collect is not shared with other organizations and we will never release such information to an external organization without your prior consent except for the purposes of validating credit information and collecting debts. We may disclose your personally identifiable information if we reasonably believe we are required to do so by operation of law, which may include, but is not limited to a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on Plural.ca.

Plural.ca is not liable in the event that any pictures or video or audio clips uploaded by any registered member are copied, legally or otherwise.

How long do you keep the information I've given you?

We keep the information you have given us for as long as you are a member on the site or for as long as we are required to do so by law, which ever is longer.

Can I change the information I have already given you?

You can always verify or request the removal of the personally identifiable information we have collected and change your registration information by selecting "My Profile" from the main menu on the site.

Any such request may also be made by sending us an email via the "Contact Us" page.

Do you monitor online behaviour?

Our members communicate with each other through pre-defined flirt messages as well as internal website personalized email. While we do not, as a rule, moderate or monitor members' private exchanges, we reserve the right to do so if we suspect users of being under 18 or of using our service for the purpose of solicitation or any other violation of our Terms of Use or Privacy Statement. Member submissions that appear on the public area of the site are moderated and, if necessary, we reserve the right to edit, delete, remove or not use any communication on a public area of the site.

What security features do you have?

The security of your personal information is important to us. Each member's profile password is encrypted using MD5, which is a one-way encryption algorithm, before it is stored in the database. This means that even if anyone were to gain access to your stored password in the database, they would have no idea what it is as it merely shows up as a set of completely different randomly scrambled numbers and letters.

As well, when you enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number) on our third party secure payment service server, it is encrypted using secure socket layer technology (SSL). SSL is the leading security protocol on the Internet; it ensures that information being transferred over the network is private through a process called encryption. Once encrypted, the data consists of nothing but unintelligible code until it is decoded upon arrival at the authorized destination.

We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

If you have any questions about security on our website, you can send us an email via the "Contact Us" page.
